The Hockey World Classic 2010 tournament was played in Tampere in the late winter and served as the unofficial world championship tournament. Despite the ash cloud that tormented airline traffic a total of a 150 teams where able to participate.
In close cooperation with the Finnish Oldtimers Hockey Association (FOHA) CRE8 designed an Internet based tournament system that consisted of the following parts:
1) Registration system, to help with enrollment 2) Hotel booking system, that enabled comparing and reserving hotels 3) Referee and official time/communication system 4) Auxiliary activities system for events in Tampere during the tournament in order to bring the organizers promotional incomes.
For the organizers CRE8 shaped a separate administration systems for managing age categories, referees and officials, hotels and enrollment and auxiliary activities. The tournament results where sent to a separate system that was attached to the HWC2010 system from another manufacturer.
"This kind of mass tournament puts a great deal of strain on both the organizers and the participants. The system that CRE8 made enables us to manage all different activities inside one system and therefore reduces stress. We are already planning the next tournament where the participants can handle a lion part of the administration on their own."
Yrjö Pärssinen, executive director Finnish Oldtimers Hockey Association (FOHA)
